County reports dates for upcoming holidays | News, Sports, Jobs – SANIBEL-CAPTIVA

Because of Labor Day, most government offices in Lee County will be closed on September 2nd.

The adjustments to the district’s holiday schedule are as follows:

– PET SERVICES

Lee County Domestic Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, will be closed September 2. Regular hours will resume September 3.

– LEETRAN

LeeTran will not operate buses, trolleys, ULTRA on-demand or paratransit services on September 2. Service will resume on September 3. Schedules and maps are available at www.rideleetran.com.

– PARKS & RECREATION

Lee County Parks & Recreation offices and recreation centers will be closed on September 2 and will reopen on September 3. Parks, beaches, pools and nature preserves will remain open on September 2. For a list of open locations, hours and facilities, visit www.leeparks.org.

The district asks park visitors to note that alcohol is not permitted in the district parks.

Additionally, residents and visitors are reminded that Causeway Islands Park on the Sanibel Causeway will remain closed to watercraft, pedestrians and bicycles due to an active Florida Department of Transportation construction site.

People launching boats, kayaks or other watercraft at county facilities in the greater Pine Island area should be aware that construction is also underway on the Little Pine Island Bridge. FDOT says work on the bridge, located on the west side of Matlacha, will continue through the holiday weekend, so motorists and boaters are asked to use caution in the area.

– SOLID WASTE

Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup in unincorporated Lee County, the City of Bonita Springs, the Village of Estero and the City of Fort Myers Beach will occur one day after the regular pickup day following the holiday. If the regular pickup day is September 2, the truck will pick up the material on September 3. Regular pickups on September 3 will occur on September 4, and so on through September 7. Regular pickup schedules will resume on September 9.

Lee County waste facilities and offices will be closed on September 2. These include the following facilities: Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, 6441 Topaz Court, Fort Myers; Buckingham Road Recycling Facility; and the Lee/Hendry Regional Waste Facility.

Residents are encouraged to recycle plastic, metal and glass containers from their holiday activities.
