The 77th Little League Baseball World Series has begun in Williamsport, and Pennsylvania is once again in the spotlight as Bucks County’s Council Rock Newtown Little League battles for national glory, writes Patrick Berkery for The Keystone Newsroom.

Council Rock Newtown represents the Mid-Atlantic region and is the fourth team from Pennsylvania in as many years to secure a coveted spot in the tournament.

Their first game, scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday against the Southwest champions from Boerne, Texas, will be broadcast live on ESPN.

This clash is crucial as the team looks to advance in a tournament that has long been a showcase of young talent and fierce competition.

Pennsylvania has a long tradition in the Little League World Series and has already won four championship titles.

The state’s teams have produced memorable moments, including Morrisville’s walk-off home run in 1955 that clinched the title and Levittown’s dominant no-hitter in 1960.

While no Pennsylvania Little League World Series participant has yet made it to the major leagues, this year’s team is ready to make a name for itself.
