Corrie star Sue Cleaver signs BBC show

Sue Cleaver will take part in the next season of “Pilgrimage”.

The 60-year-old actress has played the role of Eileen Grimshaw in ITV1 soap opera Coronation Street since 2000, but is now reportedly set to swap the cobbles for the BBC Two reality show, which sees well-known faces from different faiths embark on a medieval pilgrimage.

According to the outlet, Sue will star alongside an all-star cast that includes Christine McGuinness when the film hits theaters in 2024.

Last season, guests included Geordie Shore legend Vicky Pattison, Hi-De-Hi star Su Pollard and former EastEnders actress Rita Simons as they followed the northern route of the Way of Fatima.

Towards the end of last year, Sue – who had small roles in Kay Mellor’s Band of Gold and Victoria Wood’s Dinnerladies before landing her signature role as taxi clerk Eileen – left the cobbles to take part in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and was a guest speaker on lunchtime chat show Loose Women in August.

The soap star revealed on the occasion of her 60th birthday that she would be taking on “new challenges” over the next ten years, but stressed that although she had lost some weight in the jungle, she was not “obsessed” with diets.

She told Prima magazine: “I lost some weight in the jungle, but I’m not obsessed with diets: life is hard enough! There will always be pressure from outside and there will always be unfair expectations placed on women, but I refuse to let myself get sucked into it.”

“My 50s have been the happiest decade of my life. I’m happy with myself and where I am, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the next decade brings.

“On the other hand, if it doesn’t work, I’ll have to get something going myself. Since doing I’m A Celeb, my eyes have been opened to all these new experiences. Now I’m just thinking, ‘So what’s my next challenge?'”
