PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia Eagles rookie second-round pick Cooper DeJean has been activated from the non-football injured list on Tuesday before the team’s joint practice against the New England Patriots.

DeJean was active for the first time in the Eagles’ training camp on Tuesday. The former defensive back from the University of Iowa was placed on the NFI list in late July before training camp due to a hamstring injury.

“Today he’ll get some individual work, let’s see how he feels,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said of DeJean. “He’s making good progress and will get some individual work. I don’t know what the team situation is yet, but let’s see how he does individually.”

For the last three weeks of camp, DeJean has been watching from the sidelines and doing “mental” exercises while recovering from his hamstring injury.

DeJean is not the only member of the Eagles secondary who has struggled with an injury in camp.

Starting safety CJ Gardner Johnson is recovering from a shoulder injury, safety Mehki Garner is injured and Sydney Brown began training camp on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered last season.

It’s unclear if DeJean will play in Thursday night’s preseason game against the Patriots, but it seems unlikely that the rookie will suit up considering he’s only been practicing individually so far.

“He’s doing a lot of walk-through reps on the side, so he’s doing every rep mentally,” Sirianni said. “But other than that, he’s got to get himself ready to get his body back in shape, and he’s got to get himself ready when he’s doing team reps and development reps, and any reps he gets, he’s got to take advantage of them.”
