The Bayside Day celebration in September takes place at Fort Totten’s Castle.

In honor of the 110th anniversary of Bayside Day Community will gather on Saturday, September 14, from 2-5 p.m. to celebrate with free activities and live music.
The event also marks the 60th anniversary of the Bayside Historical Society, which will host the day’s festivities at “The Castle” in Fort Totten, where the organization has its headquarters.
There will be outdoor lawn games as well as children’s games and crafts on the lawn overlooking Little Bay. Food can be purchased and refreshments will be served in commemorative cups.
Live music from the 1960s will be played by Chicken Head Rocks, a rock and blues band that frequently performs in Bayside and on Long Island. One of the band members is Paul DiBenedetto, current BHS president and chair of Community Board 11.
Bayside Day was first started in 1914 by the Bayside Civic Association, which no longer exists.
Accordingly Archive documentsThe program of the original celebration on September 26, 1914 began with a children’s and baby parade. At that time, the “Queen of Bayside” also led the automobile parade in a decorated float.
Visitors interested in learning more about Bayside’s history can also visit the BHS Castle, where more historic photos are on display. Quiz fans have the chance to test their Bayside knowledge and compete for prizes.

In case of rain or other bad weather conditions, the event will be postponed to Sunday, September 15th.
