The 2024 college football season has begun.

Colorado State opens the season on Saturday, August 31, at No. 4 Texas.

Here’s a look at Colorado State’s official roster, released by the CSU.

QUARTERBACK

Starter: Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi

Security: Jackson Brousseau

Notes: Fowler-Nicolosi is the undisputed starter. Brousseau has already worn his redshirt, so the team could look to use him in some one-sided games if the opportunity arises.

Run back

Starter: Justin Marshall

Security: Kobe Johnson

Notes: Redshirt freshman Marshall gets the starting job after the electric end through 2023, with the experienced Johnson listed as the backup. Keegan Holles, Damian Henderson, Avery Morrow and even true freshman Jalen Dupree could all be in the running for assignments.

Colorado State Football: Strengths and weaknesses of the individual position groups

RECIPIENT

Starters:

  • Tory Horton
  • Armani Winfield
  • Dylan Goffney

Backup:

  • Donovan Ollie
  • Caleb Goodie
  • Jamari Person

Notes: Experienced transfers Goffney (who was at CSU last year after leaving SMU), Winfield (Baylor) and Ollie (Cincinnati) bolster the unit, while young players Goodie and Person are pushing for time. Also keep an eye on freshman Jordan Ross.

TIGHT END

Starter: Vince Brown

Security: Peter Montini

Notes: Brown was the likely starter, but that was sealed by the injury to Jaxxon Warren, who was out for the season. Montini is a respected veteran who will be used in many situations. Mason Muaau is likely the next great pass catcher in the group.

Offensive line

Starters:

  • LT: Saveyon Henderson
  • LG: Alex Foster
  • C: Jacob Gardner
  • RG: Drew Moss
  • RT: Aaron Karas

Backup:

  • LT: Christian Martin
  • LG: Tanner Morley
  • C: Trevyn Heil
  • RG: Aitor Urionabarrenechea
  • RT: Chandler Brown

Notes: The starting lineup has been set since the beginning of training camp. Karas will make his first career start at No. 4 Texas (he has played in 14 games). Trevyn Heil has stepped into the role of backup center.

Defence line

Starters: Mukendi Wa-Kalonji, Cam Bariteau, James Mitchell, Gabe Kirschke

Backup: Kennedy McDowell, Will Predergast, Andrew Laurich, Kenyon Agurs

Notes: The absence of Nuer Gatkuoth for the Texas game (turf toe) is a big loss and the Rams need him back sooner rather than later. Kirschke will get a big opportunity as DE. The replacements include three second-year Rams (McDowell, Laurich and Agurs), which is a good sign for developing depth but could result in the young players being tested this season.

LINEBACKER

Starters: Chase Wilson, Boom Jock

Backup: Drew Rodriguez, Jaseim Mitchell

Notes: Wilson and Jock will be on the field a lot when healthy and can be expected to rack up a lot of tackles.

SECONDARY

Starters:

  • S: Jack Howell
  • S: Henry Blackburn
  • NK: Dom Morris
  • CB: Dom Jones
  • CB: Elias Larry

Backup:

  • S: Jaylen Gardner (listed on both safety spots)
  • NK: Ayden Hector
  • CB: Isaiah Essissima
  • Center back: Dylan Phelps

Notes: Morris won the nickelback job ahead of Hector and Larry won the No. 2 cornerback spot (although Essissima is expected to play a lot). Gardner is considered a potential star of the future.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Starters:

  • K: Jordan Noyes
  • P: Paddy Turner
  • KR: Kobe Johnson OR Caleb Goodie
  • PR: Tory Horton
  • LS: Morgan Tribbett

Backup: Bryan Hansen (kicker), Jake Dennis (long snapper)

Notes: When healthy (Noyes is battling an injury), the special teams should be excellent for CSU.
