Redmond O’Hanlons 1-7 Collegeland 4-21

Collegeland opened its Junior Championship account with a convincing away win at Redmond O’Hanlon’s on Sunday afternoon. A scoring streak 20 minutes before half-time that resulted in an unanswered 1-8 sent Paul Doyle’s side on their way.

Tom Murphy got the game going after three minutes as Nathan McParland doubled the visitors’ lead. Redmond O’Hanlon replied through Aaron Waddell while Caolan McQuade and Charlie Magill exchanged points.

Then came the Collegeland avalanche, with Jason Kelly and Stefan McKenna each scoring to make it 0-2. Goalkeeper Niall Brady slotted home a long-range free kick while McQuade made it 1-2 in quick succession.

Cathair McGeary scored a point which Magill equalised at the other end, leaving Collegeland 11 points ahead at half-time, 1-11 to 0-3.

Adam Canavan (free) and Pauric McGeary cancelled each other out at either end early in the second half before Bartley Finnegan scored. McQuade (free) and Eamon O’Reilly also scored goals while McParland added a second.

Kelly scored a third major for Collegeland as Murphy, Kelly and Brady (free) shared the posts. Michael Cullen raised another white flag before Kelly played through McQuade for his second three-pointer of the day.

Canavan fired a second free-kick over the bar, while O’Hanlon himself put the ball into the net through Davy Bagnall. Brady and Kelly scored from deadlock, while Waddell and Mark Keenan shot over the bar at the other end.
