CMS releases updates on first day of school, spots still available

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) officials announced important news during a press conference marking the first day of school on Monday.

CMS Superintendent Crystal Hill, CMS Assistant Superintendent Melissa Balknight and Tim Ivey, the district’s Chief Operations Officer, spoke during the meeting.

He told the media that the first day of school was a “great start.”

As of Monday afternoon, about 105,000 students were being transported on CMS buses. Ivey said the district had expected “normal traffic delays.”

Ivey told media that the district has encouraged parents to download “Here Comes the Bus,” an app that provides live updates on school bus locations and alerts about delays or route changes.

Ivey also said families should plan to be at their assigned bus stop ten minutes in advance as they adjust to the schedule for the 2024-2025 school year.

Balknight said the first week will focus on getting students, parents and staff back into their daily routine.
