Cleanup after Storm Debby begins in Manatee County on Tuesday

Cleanup efforts after Tropical Storm Debby continue, and on Tuesday Manatee County will collect all of the storm debris left behind by residents.

Waste management companies will initially focus on the hardest-hit areas of the county. Manatee County authorities require that all debris piles be storm-related and properly segregated, as contractors cannot pick up mixed garbage.

Below are some important things to consider when preparing to have your debris picked up:

  • Plant remains, construction rubble and electrical appliances should be stored separately
  • There must be no fences between trees and branches
  • Wooden fences are pressure-impregnated and must be processed separately
  • Debris piles should be at least one meter away from mailboxes, backflow drains and fire hydrants and must not be blocked by vehicles.
  • Do not place your stacks under power lines or trees
