A grand jury has indicted a Clarksville resident on child abuse and first-degree murder charges.

On Wednesday, Clarksville Police announced that Vincent Edward Coleman, 51, of Clarksville, was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse.

On September 10, 2023, the Department of Children’s Services notified CPD of the suspected child abuse of a two-month-old child that had occurred the previous day at a residence on Baltimore Drive.

Detectives from the Special Operations Special Victims Unit and the Homicide Unit went to Vanderbilt Hospital to conduct the initial investigation.

The child later died from his injuries and the case was transferred to the Special Homicide Unit. The investigation was conducted by Detective Keenan Carlton, according to a CPD press release.

Evidence in this case was presented to the Montgomery County Grand Jury in July 2024, and the jury returned indictments for first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

Coleman was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on July 22 to await trial.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Carlton at (931) 896-3824.
