Clark County Commissioner expresses concern about CCSD superintendent search

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) — The search for a new superintendent for the Clark County School District continues. On Tuesday, Clark County Commissioners received an update from their representative on the CCSD board.

Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick expressed concern about the process so far, particularly a community survey.

“In my opinion, it’s a flawed poll,” Kirkpatrick argued, pointing to a district survey of parents, students and teachers asking what they wanted from their next superintendent.

“I got the impression that they were just asking the same questions in a different way, and that worried me,” Kirkpatrick added. Kirkpatrick claimed that important questions were not being asked.

Lisa Satory, who was appointed earlier this year to represent Clark County on the CCSD Board of Trustees (though unlike elected school board members, she does not have voting rights), explained how the survey was created.

“It was the survey they had used in previous searches, so we didn’t rework everything,” Satory revealed.

“Mark my words: If it turns out that the community has not really made up its mind on any issue and you let a superintendent go through the search undecided, I will scream at the top of my voice that you botched the investigation from the start,” Kirkpatrick promised.

The CCSD Superintendent’s community survey is now open and closes Sept. 3. The district says it’s trying to include as many people as possible.

It is available in eight languages. You can find the link here:
