Cincinnati’s underground charm makes the magazine’s list of “must-see fall destinations”

You don’t have to travel far to get to one of the best fall destinations in the Midwest, according to magazine Living in the Midwest. In fact, it could be right on your doorstep.

As summer draws to a close, Cincinnati is bursting with autumnal charm, pumpkin spice, colorful leaves, and even a little spookiness—part of what makes the city so special. Living in the MidwestList of fall destinations to visit. In the magazine’s Fall 2024 issue, editors highlight the Queen City’s (literally) enchanting underground allure.

The post includes a guide to spending a day underground in Cincinnati, including an adventure beneath the city’s streets in the historic brewing tunnels of Over-the-Rhine on an American Legacy tour, drinks at underground jazz bar Ghost Baby, and dinner at Sotto, a rustic Italian restaurant in the basement of another downtown restaurant, Boca.

The magazine also highlights some other insider tips for Cincinnati visitors, such as the quirky Lucky Cat Museum, Spring Grove Cemetery (a perfect spot for fall ghost hunting), Filipino breakfast sandwich pop-up Cackleberry, eclectic OTR cocktail bar Lost & Found, and more.

The Living in the Midwest The article comes after public relations agency PB&J, local businesses and Main Street Ventures, a community funding initiative for entrepreneurs, partnered to offer tours of Cincinnati to national travel and food and drink editors. The tour, named the “Lost & Found Tour” after the bar that was also a participating venue, was funded entirely by Main Street Ventures and included bars, cafes, pop-ups, restaurants and other attractions throughout Cincinnati to highlight the city’s entrepreneurial spirit.

“This editorial is a testament to the innovative and collaborative spirit of Cincinnati that only our strong community can convey,” PB&J owner Micah Paldino said in a press release.

According to Main Street Ventures, the goal of the tour was also to encourage further investment in Cincinnati through community-funded initiatives that enable entrepreneurship for all in Greater Cincinnati.

Longfellow's Other Room 109 E. 13th St. and Brackett Alley, Over-the-Rhine Attached to Longfellow is the bar's Other Room, a separate back drinking area with a wide selection of rotating rums. With the vibe of a '50s basement bar - where Desi Arnaz performed but which was run by David Lynch - the rum curators and bartenders are happy to help you find a new favorite spirit from their worldwide collection. The unassuming entrance is located at 109 E. 13th and Brackett Alley along Longfellow's side doors and windows, but can also be accessed via the bar's bathroom hallway.
