Game Notes

Fort Wayne scored five runs in the first two innings and took a 5-1 lead early in the 6th. Dayton scored seven runs in that inning, with John Michael Faile’s grand slam putting them ahead 6-5. The Tincaps scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Dragons’ lead to one run, but neither team scored again, allowing Dayton to take the win and make it 63-50. They improved to 29-18 in the 2nd half and have a two-game lead over West Michigan in the division.

Cam Collier didn’t have a hit that night, but he did manage three walks and extended his on-base streak to 20 games. He has multiple walks in four straight games and in seven of his last 10 games. In August, he managed 17 walks with 11 strikeouts while posting a batting average of .351/.536/.568.

John Michael Faile has hit a home run in three straight games — all since joining Dayton earlier this week. After starting the season 2-17 with the ACL Reds in May, Faile has a batting average of .413/.532/.746 in 21 games in the complex Arizona league and his three games with the Dragons.

Jay Allen II, who left Thursday’s game after being hit in the chest by a pitch and did not play Friday, was back in the lineup Saturday and picked up where he left off. With two more hits, he now has a batting average of .333/.466/.467 in 14 games in August.

Leo Balcazar left the game early for an unknown reason. He was 0-2 at the time, ending his 15-game hitting streak.

Simon Miller has allowed earned runs in one game since May 19. He allowed three runs in 2.0 innings on July 28. During that span, he has thrown 28 innings in 18 games and posted a 0.96 ERA between Daytona and Dayton.

Brody Jessee has posted a 2.40 ERA in the Dragons’ bullpen over the past month, allowing nine hits and walking four batters, along with 13 strikeouts in 15.0 innings.
