Game Notes

Leo Balcazar extended his hit streak to 14 games. He set a season record with four runs batted in. Before Thursday night, he had never scored more than two runs in a single game at any point this season. Since July 24, he has a hit average of .317/.341/.476 with seven extra-base hits in 20 games played.

Cam Collier extended his on-base streak to 18 games. During this time, he achieved a batting average of .356/.500/.576 with 17 walks, nine extra-base hits and 16 strikeouts.

Hector Rodriguez had a record of 0-21 in his last six games and just 5-44 in August before breaking his slump with a 4-6 record on Thursday night.

John Michael Faile began the season 2-17 in May. He didn’t play much, but was unable to take advantage of the time he had early on. But by early June, he started hitting when he did appear in games, and from early June through the end of the ACL Reds’ season, he went 20-49, hitting .408/.547/.653. The ACL season ended three weeks ago, and Faile remained in Arizona until he was sent to Dayton earlier this week. He made his first appearance on Thursday, and picked up where he left off, hitting a long home run right into the center of the batter’s eye on a 3-hit night.

Johnny Ascanio hit three home runs in his first 11 games of the season. He then went nearly four months without hitting another home run. His last home run before Thursday night with Dayton came on April 21 while at Daytona.

In his last two starts, Brian Edgington has thrown 12.0 innings, allowed two runs, walked two, allowed three hits and struck out 15 batters.

Jay Allen II was hit by a pitch in the game. He went for a bunt, but the up-field fastball hit him in the chest/collarbone area. It may have even caught him in the neck after hitting his chest first. After spending about 3 minutes with the trainer on his knee, he went to first base and stayed in the game to run the bases. He came around to score, hitting his chest hard several times in the process – probably a good sign that he wasn’t too badly injured in the hit-by-pitch. But when the second half of the 5th inning began, he didn’t take the field and was moved to center.
