  • Austin Hendrick went 1-3 with a walk and a run.

Matchday notes

Rhett Lowder threw a complete game in the first, but he almost didn’t get the chance. The game was tied 1-1 at the start of the seventh inning, but Francisco Urbaez hit a walk-off hit to the wall with two outs. Three different runners were thrown out at the plate in this game. Austin Hendrick and Bubba Thompson both threw out a Trash Panda at the plate, and on the other hand, Dominic Pitelli was thrown out at the plate.

In the second game, the Lookouts were the visiting team, and just like in the first game, the “home team” came away with the win. The Lookouts led 4-1 at the start of the sixth inning, but Rocket City scored a run. They then scored three runs against two relievers in the bottom of the seventh inning to split the doubleheader.

For Lowder, the 7-inning start was the longest of his career. He had thrown six innings five times this season, but had never been asked to return to the mound for the 7th inning. On Wednesday, he had thrown just 61 pitches in six innings and was sent back to the mound. He needed 20 pitches to end the final inning. In his last six starts, Lowder allowed four earned runs (1.06 ERA) in 34.0 innings while allowing just 20 hits.

Tyler Callihan got on base in both of the day’s games, extending his on-base streak to 16 games. The streak dates back to May 23, and he had it at nine games before an injury cost him the next nine weeks on the injured list. He has returned and extended it by another seven games. He had hits in 15 of those 16 games and has a batting average of .362/.415/.466 during the streak.

Bubba Thompson was 4-7 that day. After a batting average of .098 in July, Thompson is now at .387 after nine games in August.

The Dayton Dragons won 5-2. Result
