The Louisville Bats won 9-2. Result

Game Notes

Louisville trailed 2-0 at the start of the 7th inning. They scored one run there, then three runs in the 8th, and finally five runs in the 9th inning to cap the game.

Blake Dunn’s hitting stayed hot as he extended his on-base streak to 10 games and his hit streak to seven games. He has a batting average of .385/.478/.436 in August with as many walks as strikeouts, and he’s made 4 of 4 attempts to steal a base.

Julian Aguiar allowed seven runs in 4.1 innings in his first start in August. Since then, he has allowed two runs in each of his two starts while throwing 11.2 innings. He has struck out 20.6% of the hitters he faced in Triple-A (47 innings) after striking out 19.1% of the hitters he faced in Double-A (69.1 innings) earlier this year.

Highest pitch speed: Julian Aguiar – 96.1 MPH (stroke)

Highest exit speed: PJ Higgins – 104.8 MPH (Singles)

Farthest hit baseball: PJ Higgins – 386 feet (home run)

The Chattanooga Lookouts won 4-0. Result

Game Notes

Tyler Callihan extended his on-base streak to 14 games. He was 0-3 when he came to the plate in the 7th inning and hit a chopper to second base. A perfect throw might have given him the win, but the throw was not perfect. It was ruled a hit, not an error, and the streak stood.

Dominic Pitelli has had multiple hits in three of his last four games, going 8-15 with two walks during that stretch.

Jose Acuna hasn’t been on the mound much for Chattanooga this season – he missed the first seven weeks, then another six after only making two appearances – but when he has been on the mound, he’s been awfully good. He’s thrown just 15.1 innings, but he’s allowed just two earned runs in that time and now has 16 strikeouts and just five walks for the Lookouts.

Luis Mey has pitched in nine games, throwing 14.1 innings for Chattanooga and allowing two runs – both in the same game. Combined with his 29 innings with Dayton, Mey now has a 2.28 ERA this season.

The Dayton Dragons lost 4:1. Result

Game Notes

The Dragons made four mistakes that evening.

Leo Balcazar extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI double in the 2nd inning.

The Daytona Tortugas lost 2:3. Box score

Game Notes

Carlos Sanchez was able to extend his on-base streak to 25 games. He managed the first 11 of these when he was still playing for the Complex League club in Goodyear. During this time, he managed 28 walks, including at least one in 19 of those games.

Last week, Ariel Almonte was on base in all six games he played in, going 9-24 (.375) with four walks and three steals.

Since July 21, Trey Faltine has taken baseball into the spotlight. In this 17-game streak, he has hit .354/.458/.667, including completing 10 of 10 attempts to steal a base. He has increased his OPS by 137 points this season and is now at the .700 mark.

Nestor Lorant continues to stun opponents. Despite allowing just one run in 5.0 innings Tuesday night, his ERA rose and is now at 1.51 after 83.2 innings pitched. He has 21 walks and 94 strikeouts and has allowed just 54 hits.

The DSL Reds won 5-4. Match report

Game Notes

The Reds trailed 3-0 early in the 6th inning of this 7-inning game and then scored four runs to take the lead. But they lost the lead in the 7th inning when the Astros Blue scored a run on an error to tie the game. The Reds got a leadoff single from Rafhlmil Torres early in the inning. He took care of the rest, with a small assist. He stole second base and scored on the same play after the catcher threw the ball to center and the center fielder then threw the ball away as well.

Torres has had a very rocky start to the season, hitting just .170 in 36 games played over the first two months. But he has been on a roll since August. He has played in eight games and has a 8-22 (.364) record with three doubles, one home run, six walks, two steals and no strikeouts. That has resulted in an OPS of 1.136 in his eight games so far this month.

Hansel Jimenez signed with the Reds in June but hadn’t played in a game until Tuesday. And after a long wait, he made it pay off. The 17-year-old went 3-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Not a bad start for his professional debut.

The DSL Rojos won 6-5. Match report

Game Notes

Juan Brown extended his hit streak to seven games – the same number of games he has played in his entire career.

From July 15 to August 2, Naibel Mariano went 0-43 in 14 games. Since then, he has gone 8-26 in seven games and posted a batting average of .308/.357/.423.
