Cigar Mile Day Anchors Aqueduct Fall Stakes Schedule

The GII Cigar Mile Handicap, one of four rated events in a busy program taking place Saturday, Dec. 7, is the highlight of the 26-race racing schedule for the Aqueduct fall meet, New York Racing Association (NYRA) officials announced Friday.

In addition to the one-round competition with a prize of $500,000, the GII Remsen Stakes and GII Demoiselle Stakes for two-year-old stallions and mares respectively, as well as the GIII Go For Wand Handicap, also over one mile, are also on the same card.

Stakes action begins on the opening day of the 26-day event on Friday, November 8, with the GIII Pebbles Stakes for 3-year-old grass colts. Graded action continues the following afternoon with the GII Red Smith Stakes for older turf colts over 11 furlongs and the GIII Hill Prince Stakes for second foals on grass. The GIII Long Island Stakes is on Sunday, November 10. The final graded event is on Saturday, November 30, with the nine-furlong GIII Comely Stakes for second foals.

In total, nine of the 26 events will feature additional prizes and the entire schedule is worth $5.33 million.

The popular New York Stallion Stakes Series (NYSS), open to the offspring of eligible New York stallions, features four divisions: Thunder Rumble and Staten Island are each worth $125,000 on Saturday, November 23, while Fifth Avenue and Great White Way, each with a purse of $500,000, are scheduled for Saturday, December 14.
