Mauricio Pochettino is set to be officially announced as the new head coach of the US men’s national team and Christian Pulisic is looking forward to working with him.
“I think it’s good news,” Pulisic told CBS before taking part in AC Milan’s 2-1 loss to Parma on Saturday. “I think it’s a change of pace for us and we can take another step and really improve as a team. In the lead up to this World Cup we need to get some good results and build momentum leading up to this moment.”
Pulisic isn’t the only USMNT player excited about the rumored signing. Yunus Musah, Pulisic’s teammate at Milan, believes Pochettino brings a certain level of prestige to the sidelines due to his experience coaching in Europe at major clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.
“When I saw the news, honestly it was nice to see that a coach like Pochettino, who has coached many top teams, has agreed to coach us,” Musah told CBS earlier this week. “I don’t think it’s official or anything, but if he becomes our coach it will be a big help. He’s a coach who has worked with top players, so he can definitely teach us a lot.”

The USMNT will play friendlies against Canada and New Zealand on September 7 and 10. If Pochettino is not officially announced by then, Mikey Vargas, coach of US Soccer’s U-20 team, is expected to lead the team through the September transfer window.
