The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the most prominent teams in college football.

Playing the most important position is no easy task – just ask Kyle McCord. Although he was solid for most of the season, a few mistimed throws seemed to turn Columbus against him.

The Buckeyes have not yet told their fans who the starting quarterback will be, and many reports indicate that Will Howard, who transferred from Kansas State, will be preferred over Devin Brown.

However, offensive coordinator and former Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly walked back that view and told reporters that the competition was still open.

“I think they’re doing a good job — all of them,” Kelly said. “We’re still in the process. I would say we’ll probably focus on that towards the end of this week. The lineup changes every day — who’s in which group. We’re just mixing and matching right now and just trying to get the most out of our reps.”

Howard threw for 2,643 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. His accuracy wasn’t the most impressive, completing 61.3% of his passes and finishing with 10 interceptions.

Devin Brown lost a starting spot to McCord last season and didn’t get many opportunities to play, but he has talent. He’s a contender as well.

Both have performed well, Kelly noted, and ideally a starter will be named soon. Right now, Howard is the favorite, but the deal is not yet a done deal.
