BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) — China has remained the world’s largest market for industrial robots for the eleventh consecutive year, an official of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Thursday at the ongoing World Robotics Conference 2024 in Beijing.

Data showed that Chinese industrial robot production reached 430,000 units in 2023, while the country’s newly added robot installations accounted for more than half of the global market in the past three years, said Xin Guobin, deputy minister of MIIT.

After a decade of rapid development, China has become a strong promoter of the growth of the global robot industry, Xin added.

Xin said that China’s robot industry has made great progress in innovation and development over the years, and new breakthroughs have been made in the research and development of bionic perception, cognition, planning and control technologies.

As of July 2024, China had more than 190,000 effective robot patents, about two-thirds of the global total.

According to Xin, China is stepping up the implementation of the “robot plus application” initiative and promoting the integration of robots in various industries. Over the past decade, the number of robots per 10,000 workers in China’s manufacturing sector has increased from 49 to 470.

The five-day conference in Beijing began on Wednesday. 169 companies from all over the world took part, including major global players such as Tesla and Siasun. The participating companies are presenting more than 600 robot units, of which over 60 are celebrating their world premiere at this conference. ■
