Cherry Hellodies is back for its fifth year with a truly unique spectacle, even by Coney Island standards.
On August 31st, Cherry Hellodies will take the stage at the Coney Island Sideshow. Starring local singer and artist Miss Cherry Delight, the evening will feature a curated selection of the “depraved burlesque and sideshow superstars.”
“What I get to do at Coney Island is really special, it’s such an extravaganza of rock ‘n’ roll love,” said Delight. “I’m just so proud of this show. It’s a lot of work to put this show together.”
“Miss Cherry Delight’s Cherry Hellodies show is always a highlight of Coney Island USA’s Burlesque at the Beach season!” said Adam Rinn, Coney Island USA Artistic Director. “Just when you think Cherry can’t top what she did last year, she doesn’t hold back and puts on an incredible, well-crafted musical extravaganza! You’d better get your tickets fast because they always sell out.”
Delight will be joined on stage by a full five-piece rock band and her new backing vocalist Melinda Porto, AKA Melfire. During the show, Delight will perform music from her new album Advice for Ashes, as well as some old classics and covers.
“I sing every single song and I have a new backing singer who is phenomenal, she’s so professional and out of this world,” Delight said. “The band is so ready.”
The full show schedule includes performances from Jo Boobs, Albert Cadabra, Pearls Daily, Mia the MVP, Kita St Cyr, Faux Pas Le Fae, Aurora North, Alaska The Lostboy and Apathy Angel. Delight says past Hellodies shows have attracted loyal attendees including founding member of GWAR, Chuck Varga, Liquid Metal SiriusXM host “Shawn The Butcher”, Humungus Fungus Of Urungus, Joe Coleman, Whitney Ward and many more.
“We are very spoiled to live in New York with some of the most talented artists you could imagine, whether it’s circus arts or burlesque or anything,” Delight said. “Everyone is not only talented, but so creative, so interesting and innovative. They’re all just so, so wonderful.”
Show attendees will also be able to enter prize draws to win items from Bath and Body Work’s Halloween collection, gift certificates to New York’s Gothic Renaissance, and works by famed rock ‘n’ roll photographer Len Delessio, among others. Proceeds from the draw will benefit Delight’s upcoming tour this fall.
“It’s about supporting the arts and all things rock and roll. All you have to do is sit back and fully enjoy every delicious morsel I give you,” Delight said. “You’ll scream, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry with happiness, you’ll feel everything. I always strive to create a show that people talk about all year long.”
Tickets for Cherry Hellodies 5 cost $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event and are available at coneyisland.com. You must be at least 18 years old to participate. The show starts at 9pm
