Chenue Her leaves Local 5 News, “Good Morning Iowa” after 3 years

America’s first Hmong anchor is saying goodbye to his post on Local 5’s “Good Morning Iowa.” Chenue Her, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, will end his three-year tenure in Iowa on August 30.

Why is Chenue Her leaving “Good Morning Iowa”?

She said he did not make the decision to leave Local 5 lightly.

“My station and my news director were very patient with me as I went back and forth and just had to decide what I wanted to do next,” Her said.

At the end of the day, Her said, he decided to pursue other opportunities as a television news anchor.

Iowa was an experience like no other for the first Hmong presenter

Her said his experience in Iowa was unlike anything he’d ever experienced, from the kindness he received from strangers to the powerful stories he was able to tell. He loved covering the AAPI refugee and immigrant community, he said.

“Beyond the stories, it was just the opportunity to work with people who really taught me a lot about Iowa and the people of Iowa,” Her said. “It was great. I’m really blessed in that regard.”

Chenue Her’s departure is the latest personnel change at Local 5’s Good Morning Iowa.

She will leave the show just two weeks after a new co-host, Joseph Holloway, joined the station. His previous co-host, Samantha Mesa, left the station in May. The show’s meteorologist, Brandon Lawrence, left the show in March and joined DART as a communications specialist.
