Charleston County Parks hosts a back-to-school party with free supplies and fun

Charleston County Parks hosted its back to school party in McClellanVille on Saturday.

Students were invited to come by, pick up school supplies, and participate in some fun activities.

The event included live music, balloon art, bouncy castles, face painting and more.

Organizations such as the Awendaw McClellanVille Fire Department and the McClellanVille Library were also represented and there were even vision screenings.

One of the coordinators shared what he thought families and students should take away from this event.

“I think they know that we have their backs and that they can come here and give the kids something fun and take something away. And then when they go to school on Monday morning, they can talk about how much fun they actually had,” said Sonya Gardner, rural recreation coordinator for Charleston County Parks.

“This is so important because as you can see, we’re in a rural area, so there’s not a lot going on here. So Charleston Parks and Recreation is providing us with the resources we need to make sure the kids have what the community needs, and that’s great,” Gardner added.

Charleston County Parks is looking to host more events at this location in the future. They have already hosted a silent disco which they say was a huge success.
