Chandler police impose curfew due to high school ‘Assassins’ game

CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) – East Valley police are warning of the dangers posed by a game popular among high school students.

Valley youth play a game called “Assassins,” in which students try to take each other out with water guns. The problem is that these water guns are starting to look more like real firearms, which has led to reports to several local police departments, including the Chandler Police Department.

Chandler police are now asking students to use brightly colored water guns if they want to play the game at all. They also want to remind children that they are not allowed to go onto private property to get someone out.

“We don’t want people in the public to fear that something more serious is going on because this game could lead to significant misunderstandings. And we also want to make sure that the public calls us if they see anyone out and about who notices anything suspicious,” said Chandler Police Sgt. Ricardo Gonzales. “If kids are playing a harmless game and it seems realistic, we hope for the best in these types of situations.”

Chandler Police are currently enforcing the following curfew in the city:

  • Children under 15 must be at home between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Young people aged 16 and 17 must be at home between midnight and 5 a.m.
