Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson is no stranger to Cincinnati Bengals fans and media. He almost single-handedly helped put the team on the national pop culture map and has been one of the biggest ambassadors for the franchise and the city as a whole.

The Bengals and Ja’Marr Chase are currently negotiating the wide receiver’s first contract extension, which is sure to be a huge one. Since the deal isn’t finalized, Chase has been “sitting out” training camp, meaning he’s there. He’s just not participating.

In a recent episode of Adam Schefter’s podcast, Johnson shared his thoughts on Chase’s contract situation and predicted that an agreement would be reached soon.

“Ja’Marr’s contract will probably be finalized sometime this week. Certainly before the season starts, because I’m sure Joe Burrow will be frustrated at some point because his best receiver is no longer out there.”

Johnson added that while he had no inside information, he was confident the deal would go through because he believed management would do whatever it took to make it happen.

Until an agreement is reached, however, Johnson is adamant we won’t see Chase on the field, although he said he would coach when it was his turn.

“He doesn’t touch the field. Some players … can separate their love of the game and their business. If it were me, I’d be out there coaching whether there was a deal or not. But as far as the business side of things goes, Ja’Marr and his team know how to do it and that’s the only way to get deals done.”

Both Chase and Burrow have stated that it won’t take long for the longtime duo to be on the same page once they’re on the field together. With the regular season just a few weeks away, hopefully the offense playing together in the regular season won’t be their first time on the field together.
