The cause of death of YouTube star Ben Potter has been announced.

The 40-year-old internet personality, known as Comicstorian, who had over three million subscribers on the video-sharing platform, died in a car accident on Saturday, June 8, PEOPLE can confirm.

In a press release provided to PEOPLE on Tuesday, June 11, the Colorado State Patrol said the incident occurred at 9:19 a.m. local time on I-25 near Fort Collins.

“The Windsor resident was traveling south on I-25 when his silver Toyota 4Runner left the right shoulder of the interstate at mile marker 267.5. He continued to cross the access road parallel to the interstate before rolling his vehicle multiple times,” the press release said.

On Wednesday, June 12, the local coroner announced that the manner of death was accidental and the cause of death was listed as “blunt force trauma to the head.”

Potter was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, but according to police, he “succumbed to his injuries from the impact at the scene of the accident.”

The content creator was the only occupant of the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved, CSP added.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing, but impairment and excessive speed do not appear to be factors at this time, the press release states.

In a message shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), his wife had previously stated that he had died “in an unfortunate accident.”

“For many of you, he was a comic storyteller who told stories from many different media. For his loved ones, he was one of the best and most helpful people you could wish for,” said Nathalie, without giving any details of the accident.

“As a husband, son, brother, friend or even just a stranger, Ben was loving and genuine. He was someone who listened and made time for his loved ones. He did his best to make everyone laugh and make sure they were OK. He was our rock and reassured his loved ones whenever they needed it,” she added.

Nathalie said her husband – who creates audio plays based on comics on his Comicstorian account and regularly talks about the Marvel and DC universes – is her world.

“I need time to be with friends and family. I have so many things to sort out, but first I need to grieve,” she added. “I ask that you respect my privacy as well as everyone else’s. Right now, my priority is to preserve everything he has built and I have no further plans.”

As for the future, Nathalie called her husband’s channel “one of his greatest achievements” and said he “doesn’t want it to end like this.”

“Ben has spent over 10 years spreading his love and appreciation for his hobbies. His love of engaging stories and well-written characters is what got him started on YouTube,” she added. “The team and I want to keep that going. We want to honor him by continuing to tell great stories about great people, and we want to keep the memory of our own superhero alive. We supported each other in everything we wanted to do, and I’m not going to stop now.”
