Catholic Charities celebrates International Overdose Awareness Day with open days

Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster will observe International Overdose Awareness Day on Friday, August 30, at its locations in Orange and Sullivan counties.th.

Catholic Charities is hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its clinics in Goshen, Middletown, Monticello, Newburgh and Port Jervis where citizens can learn more about substance use disorder (SUD) and overdose prevention.

International Overdose Awareness Day is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose. This year’s theme, “Together We Can,” highlights the power a community can have when they work together to raise awareness of substance use disorders, combat stigma, promote treatment, celebrate recovery, and strengthen collective efforts to prevent overdose deaths.

“The drug crisis is having a devastating impact on our communities, families and individuals,” said Amy Kolakowski, LCSW, Chief Clinical Officer, Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster.

“It is important that we provide people with the resources and support they need to prevent the deadly consequences of substance abuse and provide them with access to evidence-based prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery services. By inviting community members to our offices to learn more about the resources available to them in their area, we can give those affected by addiction the best chance for long-term recovery and hope for the future.”

Catholic Charities offers a supportive, OASAS-accredited outpatient program for people with alcohol, drug, and other substance use problems. Multiple levels of treatment are available for adults and adolescents. Services include outpatient treatment and recovery support for individuals and families, medication-assisted treatment, peer advocacy, harm reduction, and referral for food and housing assistance. Catholic Charities provides help and gives hope to those in need, regardless of religion, ability to pay, or insurance status.
