Cardinals’ Willson Contreras is placed on the injured list after a broken bone

Willson Contreras of the St. Louis Cardinals broke a finger on Saturday night in his team’s 6-0 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Manager Oliver Marmol’s team then had to announce that the 32-year-old Venezuelan native would be placed on the injured list.

The information was announced in the wake of the Cardinals’ 6-0 road loss to their AL Central opponents, their third loss in six games.

Contreras of the Cardinals has a .262 batting average with 15 home runs and 36 runs batted in for the third-place team in the NL Central.

The revelation about Contreras’ injury came amid a feud between Cardinals star Sonny Gray and his former team. Earlier, Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas shared his thoughts on whether the team can repeat 17 consecutive wins and secure a playoff spot.

Contreras’ injury puts St. Louis in a difficult position considering the dire situation the team is currently in with regard to its playoff hopes.
