Browns’ Mike Hall placed on Commissioner’s Exempt List

BEREA, Ohio – The NFL is placing Cleveland Browns rookie defensive lineman Mike Hall Jr. on the Commissioner’s Exempt List because of domestic violence charges filed against him.

Hall, 21, pleaded not guilty to one count of domestic violence earlier this month. Police were called to a home Hall shares with his fiancée in Avon on Aug. 13. According to an incident report, the woman told police Hall became violent during an argument about finances.

According to multiple reports, the woman retracted the allegation that Hall had put a gun to her temple during the argument. According to the incident report, police seized two handguns from the apartment.

Hall continued to train after his indictment and participated in the last two preseason games after his arrest on August 14.

Hall has scheduled a hearing for September 10.

When asked what the reasons were for the decision to allow Hall to practice, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said: “I can’t go into all the details. We will let the legal process play out.”

Players on the commissioner’s exempt list will still be paid but will not count toward the 53-man roster limit. Hall is ineligible to play in or attend games, and he cannot practice. However, the Browns may allow him to attend meetings, individual training sessions, therapy, rehabilitation and other permitted non-football activities at their facility.

The Browns selected Hall with the No. 54 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Hall, a native of Streetsboro, played college football at Ohio State.
