Will Campbell arrived on campus to LSU ahead of the 2022 season, as does head coach Brian Kelly. In his third year with the Tigers, Kelly has seen some big improvements in Campbell’s game
For Kelly, however, the biggest change hasn’t happened on the field. He’s earned the respect of his teammates in the locker room and has become a leader in the locker room as he enters his third year at LSU.
“Will wasn’t a man of many words and he still isn’t. But when he speaks, he’s well-received by our team,” Kelly said. “And I think he’s done that more and more. He’s spoken his mind to our football team. I think that evolution has been really good for him and for us, because when you have a guy like him who is so respected by his teammates, people really listen to him when he speaks.”
On the field, Campbell is expected to be a key factor on the offensive line and man the left tackle position for the Tigers. Of course, this comes after earning First Team All-SEC honors as a finalist for the Joe Moore Award. In collaboration with Emery Jones at the tackle spot, Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is expected to be one of the best protected quarterbacks in the country next season.
Campbell is also one of four returning starters from last season’s offensive line that helped quarterback Jayden Daniels win the Heisman Trophy. Garrett Dellinger And Miles Frazier also return to protect Nussmeier and support LSU’s offense, with Campbell expected to play a leading role.
“His skill level is so good that we’re asking him to do things this year that he’s never done before,” Kelly continued. “We’re pulling him back and moving him around. We’re much more of an inside and outside zone focused team. We’re pulling him back and moving him around a lot more. I think that’s going to make him even better as a football player and give him a chance to really shine on a national level and in the eyes of NFL scouts.”
Campbell will showcase his skills for LSU when the Tigers begin their season on September 1 against the USC Trojans in a highly anticipated Week 1 matchup in Las Vegas. Matchups against South Carolina And University of California will offer Campbell and Co. plenty of competition before the 5th week of the regular season.
