Brewers infield talent is on the injured list for the second time this year

Injuries are a part of the game for most baseball players at all levels. A young talent from the Milwaukee Brewers is learning this the hard way.

On Tuesday, the Biloxi Shuckers, Double-A affiliate of the Brewers, announced that infielder Mike Boeve had been placed on the 7-day injured list, certainly a disappointing setback for a man who has barely been in the organization for a year.

Boeve was selected by the Brewers in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He quickly made it to High-A Wisconsin after debuting at the Arizona Complex following his draft, then was promoted to Double-A after just 13 games this season.

His big season was somewhat derailed, however, when the Shuckers placed him on the injured list on July 9. He missed nearly a month before returning to the field for Biloxi on August 1.

Unfortunately, it took less than three weeks for Boeve to be back on the injured list as of yesterday. Minor league teams don’t often give concrete injury news, so it’s hard to say if this is an aggravation of the previous injury or if this is a new injury.

The Brewers signed Boeve last summer as a player who could add offensive talent to their infield group, and so far he’s done just that, adding a little more momentum in his second pro season.

In his 32 total games in High-A with the Timber Rattlers, Boeve was a hitting and on-base machine, posting a .355 average and a .453 on-base percentage at Wisconsin. He also added six doubles and a home run, along with 26 RBIs.

In 65 games so far in Double-A, he had a still-impressive batting average of .306 with an OBP of .374. What did improve, however, was his slugging percentage, which went from .436 to .447. That extra hit resulted in 12 doubles, three triples and six home runs.

Boeve will have a great chance to be included in the Brewers’ future infield plans in the near future. Unfortunately, he will have to overcome some nagging injuries first.
