‘Brave New World’ reveals more about 2024’s most controversial superhero as talks begin to rebuild the Avengers

D23 revealed a lot of interesting information to fans who attended the live event. Disney fans were able to eat well, and those who attended the MCU reveals were still riding high from last month, which not only gave us a ton of updates on all the upcoming Marvel projects, but also gave us the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World.

The footage shown at D23 took a closer look at the teaser for the film, which featured aspects of Captain America: The Winter Soldier And Captain America: Civil War. The teaser not only gave audiences a better look at Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross turned Hulk, but also went deeper into the role Sabra would play in the story.

The controversy surrounding Sabra has not stopped her from getting involved in Captain America: Brave New World

The inclusion of Sabra, an Israeli superhero, in the MCU was heavily criticized given the real-life events at the time of its announcement. The character was portrayed as a heroine with ties to the Mossad, which quite a few viewers found insensitive.

The character has since been reworked, as has the majority of the film. Reports have confirmed that the character will be portrayed as a former Black Widow, as a direct result of the destruction of the Red Room by Scarlett Johanson’s Natasha Romanoff prior to the events of Captain America: Civil War.

Footage shown at D23 revealed that Sabra, played by Shira Haas, will be a close confidante of Thunderbolt Ross, someone the character trusts so much that she sits in on a private conversation with Sam Wilson while his own cabinet isn’t privy to the talks. As for the extended teaser, the character could have her own agenda towards the U.S. government.

It’s strange that Sabra is a Black Widow but not part of the Thunderbolts

The Thunderbolts include Yelena, a former Black Widow, Taskmaster, who served on behalf of the Red Room, and Red Guardian, who had ties to the organization allied with or reporting to the Red Room. Although this team has U.S. Agents and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in its ranks, it is odd that Sabra is not invited to join the team.

Since the team is on the payroll of the US government as a task force, Sabra’s absence from the team, despite being such a close confidant of the President of the United States, suggests that something bigger is afoot. Since there are other unanswered questions, Falcon and the Winter Soldierlike Sharon Carter as Powerbroker, Captain America might be involved in a game too complicated to be satisfactorily resolved before the events of Avengers: Doomsday.

Captain America: Brave New World hits in cinemas on February 14, 2025.
