Boerne wins 5-2 against Nevada and secures place in the US final of the Little League Baseball World Series

WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania. – The Boerne boys entered Wednesday’s game against Henderson, Nevada, in the Little League Baseball World Series with two chances to earn the right to play in the U.S. championship game.

Boerne showed composure, extended his lead in the later innings of the game and won 5-2.

As Boerne prepared for his third game on the national stage, Boerne’s classmates and teachers gathered for watch parties at Voss Middle School and Boerne Middle School South.

Loud roars and screams erupted from the cafeteria of Julian Hurst, Doc Mogford, Caden Guffey, Aiden Munoz and Gage Stuebing’s middle school as students cheered every hit, run and strike.

Guffey, who is used to performing on the national stage in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, started on the mound opposite Nevada’s Wyatt Erickson.

Boerne needed no time to make its way into the US semifinals, as runs from Hurst and Gray Collins gave the team a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning.

Shortly thereafter, Boerne got into trouble for the first time in the tournament, as there was one out on the board and all bases were occupied.

Even though the pressure of the world is on their shoulders, the boys from Boerne remain calm.

After Guffey allowed a walk with the bases loaded, manager Justin Newson called Kaleb Christ out of the bullpen.

Christ got a crucial strikeout for the second out, but Nevada tied the game before Steubing helped Boerne out of the bases-loaded situation with a flyout to center field.

From that point on, Boerne never looked back. In the bottom of the third inning, Hurst hit a hit to center field that allowed Steubing to score. Boerne regained the lead 3-2 after three innings.

Both teams also battled the elements as it began to pour with rain in Williamsport.

With the win, Boerne secured a spot in the US finals of the LLWS. The other spot in the US championship game will be decided in the next 1-2 days between teams from Nevada, Florida and Hawaii.

The United States Championship will be broadcast live on KSAT 12 on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
