WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania. – The Boerne Little League baseball team took advantage of long balls and great pitching to beat Newtown, Pennsylvania, 9-0 in the Little League World Series on Thursday night.
An error by Newtown gave Boerne its first score. With a runner on second base early in the second inning, Aiden Munoz hit a line drive to first base.
The ball bounced off the first baseman’s glove and landed in foul territory, allowing Doc Mogford to score. Boerne took a 1-0 lead.
Early in the fourth inning, Boerne starting pitcher Caden Guffey hit a solo home run to give Boerne Little League a 3-0 lead over Newtown.
The Boerne Little League All-Stars won the game by scoring six runs in the fifth inning. Kole Newson hit a game-winning grand slam to give Boerne a commanding 8-0 lead.
Mogford scored the final run of the evening with a powerful solo hit down the left flank.
Guffey allowed two hits and struck out three players in two innings. Lead pitcher Julian Hurst came in as a relief pitcher and threw four innings with no hits and ten strikeouts. Hurst also allowed two walks.
Boerne beat Newtown 12-2, with each side making one error.
Boerne will play its next game on Monday night when the All-Stars face the winner of the Northwest-Southeast duel.
