GREEN ISLAND, Wis. (WBAY) – The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday that it recovered the body of missing boater Bill Salnik near Green Island.

Just after noon on Saturday, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a boater who found a suspected body near Green Island. The Sheriff’s Office and the City of Marinette Fire Department immediately responded and recovered the body.

A short time later, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office identified the body as that of boater Bill Salnik, who disappeared in July.

Salnik was reported missing along with his two children, Charlotte and Josh, when they failed to return from a sailing trip on July 13. His sailboat was found capsized south of Chambers Island the following Monday morning, and the bodies of five-year-old Charlotte and three-year-old Josh were recovered hours later. Several law enforcement agencies and community members have been searching Green Bay and the Door County coast for Bill since he was reported missing.

The investigation into Salnik’s death is being conducted by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Coroner’s Office and is ongoing.
