Bob Good has to pay $88,918 for recount costs, receives 4 votes after correcting errors

Bob Good has to pay ,918 for recount costs, receives 4 votes after correcting errors

Good detailed the process on social media, noting that “the three-judge panel tasked with the recount reconvened the Goochland County court after subpoenaing both parties and five of the 24 registrars of the 5th District.” The five municipalities – Halifax, Amherst, Cumberland and Mecklenburg counties, and the city of Danville – were reconvened to resolve discrepancies in vote totals.

Good explained that “the judges worked with the five municipalities to correct some reporting errors, which resulted in an overall increase in my vote total of four votes.” With this adjustment, the final vote total was 31,219 for Good and 31,585 for McGuire, a difference of 366 votes.

The recount process also included a review of the costs associated with the process. Good explained, “Presiding Judge Worrell also heard some objections I raised to the submitted cost estimates for the recount and made some adjustments to arrive at a final bill of $88,918.72 for the 24 localities.” The court ruled that Good’s campaign team would not have to pay for certain expenses, including portions of the salaries for police and administrative staff, reducing the total from an original estimate.

Good concluded his statement by expressing his appreciation for the judges’ diligence, saying, “I appreciate the judges’ efforts to correct some errors identified after the recount.”
