Black River Audubon Society and Lorain County Metro Parks present “Fluddles” on September 1

According to a press release, the Black River Audubon Society, in collaboration with Lorain County Metro Parks, presents “Fluddles” by filmmaker Bob Dolgan.

The event will be held on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. at the French Creek Nature Center and Theater, 4530 Colorado Ave. in Sheffield Village, the press release said.

“Fluddles” is a chronicle of the wildlife of Illinois’ agricultural wetlands, the press release states.

Puddles, sometimes simply described as “big puddles,” form in the spring and fall and provide habitat and food for a variety of waterfowl and wading bird species, the release said.

“Fluddles” takes viewers on a journey into these secret, often ephemeral wilderness areas at a time when Illinois has lost 90 percent of its original wetlands, the press release said.

“Fluddles” showcases people enjoying the beauty of wetlands while also showcasing the ongoing movement to build more wetlands that provide important habitat, reduce flooding and erosion, and contribute to healthier waterways, the press release said.

According to the press release, “Fluddles” is the sequel to “The Magic Stump” and the second part of the Prairie State film series.

Dolgan is a Chicago-based author, consultant and filmmaker, a board member of the Chicago Ornithological Society, and a lifelong birder.

He is the founder of Turnstone Strategies and writes a weekly newsletter: “This Week in Birding”.

The mission of the Black River Audubon Society is to promote the conservation and restoration of ecosystems, with an emphasis on birds and other wildlife, through advocacy, education, mentoring, field trips and programs for the benefit of all people today and tomorrow, the press release states.

According to the press release, the event is free for members and non-members.
