Bills legend Jim Kelly claims the QB competition in the AFC has not changed since his time

Jim Kelly is etched into Buffalo Bills history as a legendary quarterback who led his team to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances. Kelly experienced the ferocity of the AFC firsthand, and even after 28 years in retirement, he sees many similarities between the AFC of his time and the one of today.

He believes that the competition among quarterbacks in the AFC is not Really changed because it is still a conference full of powerful quarterbacks.

Week after week, there were star QB versus star QB duels. No matter which team you look at, they had an impressive force calling their plays. And in their day, the QBs a lot more than today and were much less protected than today’s game.

Having competed against legends like Dan Marino, John Elway, Bernie Kosar, Boomer Esiason and Warren Moon, Kelly knows what it’s like to compete against the best. He remembered,

“The AFC had a lot of great quarterbacks in my day… I could go on forever, there were so many.”

Fast forward to today, and the AFC still lights up is brimming with talent. Names like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers are the stars of various AFC team rosters, and Kelly is aware of the intensity of competition that comes with them.

“When you look at the AFC with all the quarterbacks they have – wow, that’s a lot,” he added.

Jim Kelly’s view is based on the fact that while the names may have changed, the fierce competition in the AFC has remained the same. The quarterbacks of Today Are further the legacy of greatness that he and his contemporaries left behind, including The Bills star Josh Allen. And Kelly couldn’t help but praise the star quarterback highly.

Jim Kelly praises Josh Allen highly

Jim Kelly knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a legendary quarterback in Buffalo. And when it comes to Josh Allen, Kelly’s admiration is as clear as crystal. Despite Allen’s rocky start in the NFL, he has become a beloved figure for the Bills Mafia and even the team’s former greats, with Kelly leading the fan club.

Kelly offered some insights about his relationship with Allen and said: “I said, Josh, if you ever want to sit down and talk, if you ever want to go to lunch and have a beer, you know, talk about a game or even before then, just let me know, just call me. If I’m here, I’m here for you.”

Jim Kelly sees Allen as not just a quarterback, but someone who could repeat the success of his time. He also praised the dual threat’s abilities on the field, adding:

“He’s such a good guy, he does so much for this community, and he’s such a great quarterback. He’s unbelievable.”

While Kelly acknowledges that Allen and Patrick Mahomes are difficult to compare, he believes the difference between the two is not as great as people may think. Certainly, even Patrick Mahomes had to endure a tough loss to the Buffalo Bills before he was finally able to outdo them.

And to say that Allen isn’t a worse quarterback would be unjustified. Nevertheless, Jim Kelly has not only the skills but also the experience to lead Josh Allen to the victories that the Bills mafia is waiting for with shining eyes.
