Billboard asks locals about Chicago’s best get-up anthems

Billboard and Tres Generaciones Tequila are collaborating to find out select cities’ Get Up Anthems, and the next stop is Chicago. Ahead of the curated list, in this Man on the Street, we asked Chicagoans to share with us some of their favorite hometown hits that have inspired and energized their city, including artists like Ye, G Herbo, and more! Be sure to listen to the official Get Up Anthems for Chicago presented by Tres Generaciones Tequila.

TetrisKelly:
Hey, it’s Tetris Kelly with Billboard and Tres Generaciones Tequila, we ask locals in the Windy City which song best represents them. We try to find Chicago’s greatest anthem. Now, if you’re hanging out on the streets of Chicago, what neighborhood do you live in?

Guest 1:
I live in Hyde Park.

TetrisKelly:
Tell me about Chicago’s music history. What anthem gets this city going?

Guest 1:
For me personally, it’s “Faneto” by Chief Keef. It’s the beat, it’s the lyrics. It’s the exact opposite of me. But for some reason I just think it’s awesome.

TetrisKelly:
What is Chicago’s stand-up anthem?

Guest 2:
“Kill S–t” by Herb. Whenever I hear it, everyone points their lasers forward and knows the first minute and a half is insane.

TetrisKelly:
Oh, say, you know, in the first minute and a half I’m going to embarrass you.

Guest 2:
Do you want to embarrass me?

TetrisKelly:
Let’s do it!

Guest 2:
(Sing)

TetrisKelly:
See, he got it! This is Chicago, baby. Tell me, what’s this city’s get-up-and-go anthem?

Guest 3:
I would say “Homecoming” by Kanye.

TetrisKelly:
Phew, “homecoming.”

Guest 4:
I come from the south side.

TetrisKelly:
What’s the best thing about the South Side?

Guest 4:
Everything.

TetrisKelly:
Which song do you think best represents Chicago?

Guest 4:
“Wife Er” by Spenzo represents Chicago.

Keep watching to find out more!
