Bill Gates hosts first India Day celebrations in Seattle

The event included a flag raising ceremony and attracted notable participants DignitariesNumerous Balloons decorated in the colors of the Indian Flag Airplanes were flown to commemorate the occasion.
Various dignitaries gave speeches at the ceremony, including Bill Gates.US Congressman Suzan K DelBene, Kim Schrier and Congressman Adam Smith attended the event. Washington Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck and Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs were also present.
The significance of this event was further underscored by the fact that mayors from Bellevue, Tacoma, Kent, Auburn, Renton, SeaTac, Snoqualmie and Mercer Island also participated in the celebration. Various local leaders came together to honor and support the Native American community in the greater Seattle area.
“Thank you, Mr. Bill Gates, for wave off the first India Day celebrations in the greater Seattle area,” said the Indian Consulate General in Seattle in a post on X.
“I am deeply grateful for the participation of Congresswomen Suzan K. DelBene and Kim Schrier and Congressman Adam Smith, as well as Washington Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck and Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs. Thank you also to the Mayors of Bellevue, Tacoma, Kent, Auburn, Renton, SeaTac, Snoqualmie and Mercer Island for their participation in supporting the Native American community,” the post continued.
Previously, India’s 78th Independence Day was celebrated on August 15 at the Indian Consulate General in Seattle. On August 15, 1947, India celebrated its 77th anniversary of independence from British colonial rule.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi for the 11th consecutive day to celebrate India’s 78th Independence Day. The theme of this year’s Independence Day was ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, highlighting the government’s goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.
