While the opening night was all about thanking President Joe Biden, speakers at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday barely mentioned the president.

Instead, speakers on the second day of the convention sought to turn a new leaf and focus more on the party’s nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, than on Biden’s accomplishments.

Former President Barack Obama spoke about Biden for about two minutes longer than any other headline-grabber.

“History will remember Joe Biden as a president who defended democracy at a moment of great peril. I am proud to call him my president, but even prouder to call him my friend,” Obama said in his keynote speech.

“Now the torch has been passed,” he said.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama, who spoke before her husband, did not mention Biden once in her speech.

When speakers at the convention earlier in the evening mentioned Biden, it was almost always in connection with Harris, to praise the achievements of her administration.

After delivering his nearly 50-minute keynote speech on Monday evening, Biden boarded Air Force One and flew to Southern California, where the president will spend the rest of the week on vacation.
