BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Bexar County employees could expect a raise next year after county commissioners voted for a 3% raise earlier this week.
At the start of their meeting Tuesday, commissioners decided whether to vote for or against a 5 percent pay raise for exclusively elected county officials.
The proposed 5 percent increase for elected workers was based on a data breakdown and a recommendation from a citizens’ advisory panel 13 months ago.
During the discussion, Third District Commissioner Grant Moody offered an alternative motion that would provide elected officials with a 3% salary increase that would match the proposed 3% cost-of-living adjustment for all other district employees.
The 3 percent increase for other county employees has already been included in the county budget proposal for 2024-2025.
After a discussion between 1st District Commissioner Rebeca Clay-Flores and 4th District Commissioner Tommy Calvert, Clay-Flores supported Moody’s motion.
Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai then called for a vote, in which he and Clay-Flores initially voted for the raise.
County commissioners are working to make any necessary changes to next year’s budget before the final vote on Sept. 10.
