Bears send strong group to U23 World Rowing Championships

This is the largest known group of California women rowers to ever compete in this event.


10 current and future rowers will compete in Canada next week

The California Golden Bears women’s rowing team will have a strong presence at the U23 World Rowing Championships taking place August 18-25 in St. Catharines, Canada, as 10 current and future Bears from five countries will compete, making this the largest known group of rowers from California competing in the event.

In the Australian women’s eight, star Rose Miller and Sophie Wardwho are both competing in the U23 Championship for the first time.

Antonia Galland returns to the U23 Championships as a member of the German women’s eight. Galland won silver in the women’s eight at the 2023 U23 Championships and previously competed in the women’s eight at the 2023 World Rowing Championships.

For Great Britain, Julia Hunt-Davis will compete in the women’s eight and new freshman Lily Abbott will compete in the women’s quadruple sculls, marking her first appearance at the U23 level.

Giulia Bosio will row for Italy in the women’s quadruple sculls. Bosio already competed in the same event at the 2022 U23 Championships, where she finished fifth, and at the 2021 Junior World Rowing Championships, where she took home silver.

Competing for the Netherlands will be Minou Bouman in the women’s foursome and Tabo Stekelenburg And Lotta van Westreenen in the women’s pair. Bouman previously rowed in the women’s eight at the 2023 U23 Championships, finishing in fifth place. Stekelenburg’s last appearance at the U23 Championships was in 2021, when she rowed in the women’s four. Van Westreenen was also in the women’s eight with Bouman at the 2023 U23 Championships.

New freshman Olivia Roth completes the group and will compete for Switzerland in the women’s double sculls. Roth rowed at the last two U23 Championships, taking bronze in the women’s double sculls in 2023 and seventh in the women’s pair in 2022.
