ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) – The search for a missing 77-year-old man continues in York County.

A Silver Alert was issued for Robert Davis on Sunday, and search parties operated throughout the day from a command post set up across from Northwestern High School.

Due to darkness and bad weather, the search was called off shortly after 8 p.m., but is scheduled to continue on Monday morning.

Davis was last seen at his home on Belaire Drive in Rock Hill and officials said he does indeed suffer from dementia. He was wearing navy blue sweatpants, a white T-shirt, an olive green hoodie and black shoes when he disappeared. He is approximately 5’10” tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds.

The York County Sheriff’s Office and other authorities were on duty for hours on Sunday, with dozens of people on the ground and in the air helping with the search.

“We are doing everything we can,” said Trent Faris of the sheriff’s office. “We have deployed the SLED helicopter to assist from the air. We have our mounted patrol unit on the ground with our mounted search and rescue team. We are doing everything we can to find Mr. Davis and bring him home safely.”

Davis is originally from Chester County and authorities said he may be headed there.

Officials told us they’ve been searching near businesses in Rock Hill and York. They said the area where he disappeared is fairly densely populated, but they didn’t want neighbors to go out and search on their own.

“Even though we’re in a pretty densely populated area, there’s still a lot of forest,” Faris said. “We don’t want people to come out and help us, we’ll take care of that. But you need to stay where you are and look… if you have cars, old cars, old buildings, old sheds, or any place you want to go to get out of the rain or the heat, look there for us right now.”

Anyone who sees Davis or has information on his whereabouts should call 911 immediately.
