The audience on Broadway Harry Potter and the Cursed Child The Showbill cover will soon come to life

The Tony-winning hit continues at the Lyric Theatre.


The New York production of the Tony-winning Harry Potter and the Cursed Childwhich continues at the Lyric Theatre, has unveiled an augmented reality showbill cover, the first for a Broadway production.

Inside each showbill, viewers will find a printed QR code that can be scanned with a smartphone. Their phones will then be prompted to download an application: With the app launched, theatergoers can wave their phones over their showbills and see the cover come to life with a vibrant animation. Chicago-based Preferred Marketing Group partnered with the Broadway production on this reality experience.

Showbill is a registered trademark of Playbill and is provided to theaters that desire customized editorial content and advertising in their programs.


Harry Potter and the Cursed ChildIt premiered on Broadway on April 22, 2018 as a two-part play. The production was nominated for ten Tony Awards and won five, including Best Play.

The condensed, one-piece production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Premiere on December 7, 2021 at the Lyric Theatre after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on a new story by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play by Thorne, directed by Tiffany. It is set 11 years after the end of the Harry Potter books when Harry’s son goes to Hogwarts.

The production also features movement by Steven Hoggett, set design by Christine Jones, costumes by Katrina Lindsay, music and arrangements by Imogen Heap, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Gareth Fry, illusions and magic by Jamie Harrison, and musical direction and arrangements by Martin Lowe. Casting in the US is by Jim Carnahan.
