CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the U.S. District Attorney met with Cincinnati residents to discuss solutions to the shootings that have occurred in the city this year.

According to the city of Cincinnati, there have been 178 shootings this year, more than half of them in the last three months.

U.S. District Attorney Kenneth Parker and ATF Director Steven Dettelbach spoke about the Cincinnati Crime Gun Intelligence Center and how they hope it can reduce the number of shootings in the city.

Dettelbach said the CGIC is working to identify shooters and their associates, including the people who supply them with firearms. The system, which was implemented two years ago, has helped identify the shooters in three murder cases, according to Dettelbach. He attributed the year-over-year drop in crime to the system.

“The progress we have made shows that our strategies are working,” said Dettelbach. “But that does not mean that our work is done. Not by a long shot.”

According to CincinnatiInisghts, most of the city’s shootings occurred in Over-The-Rhine, Avondale, Roselawn and Westwood.
