Alexandria, VA and Flat Rock, NC – Acclaimed author and visual journalist Arielle Emmett, Ph.D., is proud to announce that her dystopian science fiction novel The Logoharp: A Cyborg Novel of China and America in the Year 2121 has won Literary Titan’s Gold Book Award for Fiction. In July, Emmett’s novel was also named a finalist in the Science Fiction: Cyberpunk category in the 2024 American Fiction Awards, sponsored by the American Book Fest.

Both awards place The Logoharp in a prestigious group of literary works that have been recognized by multiple review agencies. Literary Titan is an organization of professional writers, editors, and professors who are passionate about the written word and have been reviewing both fiction and nonfiction and engaging readers since 2013. The American Book Fest, now in its seventh year, celebrates the best works in over 70 genre-specific categories and recognizes outstanding titles published between 2022 and 2024.

“I am thrilled that my work is now being recognized by these two wonderful organizations,” said Emmett. “The Logoharp began as a draft after I taught and reported in Beijing in 2012. It is the culmination of years of research and reporting from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and most recently Nairobi. It has been a long, arduous process of introspection and rewriting to turn this narrative into reality.”

Emmett’s novel introduces Naomi, a genetically enhanced cyborg and “reverse journalist” who foresees and reports on the future of 22nd century China. Her narrative covers topics such as AI-driven propaganda, political power, and personal rebellion, while touching on strong contemporary issues. According to Literary Titan, which gave The Logoharp a 5-star rating, “the narrative recalls the dystopian tones of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World… In Naomi’s reality, the interplay between media and truth creates a landscape that is both fascinating and terrifying.”

Publishers Weekly Booklife also reviewed The Logoharp, giving it a Top Editors’ Choice: “An intelligent, surprising science fiction debut that grapples with the media and disinformation of the next century… Young Naomi – a Michigan Ameriguan woman born with a hole in her heart and reputed to be prescient – is assisted and trained by the Chinese and Ameriguan Chant Directorate to absorb and evaluate information from countless sources in all languages, as well as ‘Aeolian vibrations’ and ‘wisdom and warnings from unknown sources from nature and the divine.'”

“Using their ‘logoharps,’ RJs report the truth of likely outcomes and stage events to glorify and preserve the health of the party and its voters,” PW Booklife continues. “Eventually, a conspiracy takes its course, involving a cover-up, a human recycling program, orders to engineer the downfall of an ‘algorithmic imposter,’ and a surprise from Naomi’s past. All of this is delightfully twisted, with conflicts extrapolated from our present with rare conceptual rigor, but the richness of imagination and moral inquiry takes precedence over narrative momentum. Still, readers of thoughtful science fiction will find revelations on every page.”

The Logoharp is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and IngramSpark. For more information, review copies, or interview requests, please contact:
