APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Those in Appleton whose homes were damaged by flooding last month can find resources for help online.

On Wednesday, city officials announced that a list of flood relief resources was available on United Way Fox Cities’ 211 website. The list includes directories for mental health assistance, damage recovery and financial coaching.

The city also said it had asked the county, state and federal governments for assistance to victims but was told no funds were available. According to the city, the number of properties affected did not meet the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s minimum standards for declaring a federal emergency.

In a news release Wednesday, the city noted that the American Red Cross and the Outagamie County Community Emergency Response Team have helped stock emergency shelters and provided free cleanup kits. Rebuilding Together Fox Valley and the St. Vincent de Paul Society have also helped.

“While the City of Appleton had hoped to receive individual financial support through the extensive government and non-governmental outreach efforts of the past few weeks, we are grateful to the many partners who have offered their help and support to the best of their ability,” the press release said.

Some residents have reported that their building insurance does not cover the damage because they do not have flood insurance.

Some homeowners said the city’s maintenance of the stormwater and sewer systems contributed to the flooding. Mayor Jake Woodford said that was not the case.
