Apple postpones the rollout of the iPhone 16 by one day

Apple has sent out invitations to its September event, where it will unveil devices such as the iPhone 16.

As Bloomberg News reported on Monday (August 26), the company will host the event at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, where Apple’s headquarters are located. The theme: “It’s Glowtime,” an obvious reference to the user interface of the digital assistant Siri on Apple’s latest devices.

According to this report, sources said Apple had planned the launch for September 10, but moved it up by a day. September 10, the report said, is also the day that presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are scheduled to debate.

The iPhone 16 is scheduled to go on sale on September 20. While the Pro models offer larger screens and new camera features like a dedicated photo-taking button, the phone’s most important selling point is arguably the integration of Apple Intelligence’s new artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Earlier this month, Apple released its numbers, showing that the company’s hardware revenue rose to $61.6 billion in the quarter. iPhone and wearables revenue declined, but Mac revenue rose 2.9 percent to $7 billion. iPad revenue rose 24 percent to $7.2 billion in the quarter, buoyed by new product launches such as the iPad Pro.

During the conference call, management emphasized that AI has the potential to support the company in its efforts to expand its ecosystem.

“It will transform the way users interact with technology, from writing tools that help you express yourself, to an image playground – giving you the ability to create fun images and communicate in new ways – to powerful tools for summarizing and prioritizing notifications,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

In other recent Apple product development news, there were also reports this month that the company is working on a device that combines an iPad-like display with a robotic arm, allowing it to perform tasks such as facing the user during a video call.

“Apple sees the device as a tool for tasks related to smart home management, video conferencing and home security,” PYMNTS wrote, adding that the company “expects it to be powered by its Siri digital assistant and Apple Intelligence AI offering; and intends to launch it by 2026 or 2027 for about $1,000.”
