Hidden on the north coast of Sao Paulo in Praia Vermelha, the newly completed FR House by Andrade Morettin Arquitetos is an integration of modern architecture and wild nature. FR House’s design places great emphasis on the relationship between the structure and its natural surroundings. The home features large glass openings at the front that provide unobstructed views of the beach and reflect the vibrant hues of the surroundings. This thoughtful layout allows the home to capture the spirit of its surroundings in its interiors. The home’s translucence is achieved through an exterior cladding of polycarbonate cellular panels that effectively filter light, sound and heat. These panels, coupled with the orientation of the structure, ensure that the home remains a peaceful and comfortable retreat.

Andrade Morettin Arquitetos places value on natural light

To adapt to the local climate and reduce energy consumption, Andrade Morettin Architects“FR House features large roof overhangs along the two main facades. These overhangs provide natural shading, keep the interior cool and minimize the need for artificial cooling systems. In addition, the facades are equipped with independent metal roller doors, which not only contribute to the unified appearance of the house but also improve its adaptability to different weather conditions. Through this design strategy, FR House blends into its surroundings while providing comfort to its residents.

Andrade Morettin Arquitetos designed the FR House with the aim of minimizing environmental impact. The construction used mainly prefabricated elements, assembled on site to minimize disturbance to the delicate coastal ecosystem. The entire building is raised 75 centimeters above the ground, which promotes natural ventilation at the base. This elevation helps cool the house and reduces excess humidity, contributing to the overall sustainability of the project.

a durable structure made of natural materials

The FR House uses a combination of materials and construction techniques that enhance its durability and integration with the environment. The structure is constructed from laminated timber that was assembled and fixed on site. The vertical cladding and ceilings are constructed from prefabricated composite wood panels that are fixed directly to the structure. Thermal insulation (EPS) and a synthetic waterproof membrane were used for the roof covering to ensure effective temperature regulation and protection from the elements. In addition to the polycarbonate panels, aluminium frames and laminated glass were chosen for the external cladding, providing a sleek, modern appearance that complements the natural surroundings.
